A pet is a companion that follows you around the world. There are 226 of them, from spirit cats to baby dragons, and every one is obtainable.
Summoning
A pet is not a permanent character property - it lives in a summon item. Use the item and the pet appears; use it again to dismiss. The item carries the level requirement, so a pet is gated by the item you hold rather than by the pet itself.
Pet summon items come from the Item Mall, from events and from drops.
Pet eggs
Pet Eggs I to V drop from monsters in the open world, and every egg found is announced to the whole server. An egg hatches into one of the ten pets of its tier - fifty pets in all, made from the world's own monsters. The higher the tier, the rarer the egg: Pet Egg I (Common) is the most frequent, Pet Egg V (Legendary) the rarest.
What a pet has
- Its own scale. A pet's rendered size grows with its level, so the same creature looks different on a new character and on a veteran.
- Its own movement. Pets keep pace with you and have a full set of idle, walk, run and attack animations.
- Its own skill slots. Pets are not purely cosmetic - a pet's skill buffs show on your buff bar, so you can see what yours is giving you.
- A fighting mode. Switch a pet between defensive and offensive and it announces the mode it took.
Pet equipment
Pets can wear equipment, and it makes the pet itself stronger. It comes from a rare Pet Equipment Box that any monster in the open world can drop - the find is announced server-wide - and the box opens into a random piece, most often green, sometimes pink and rarely better. Pet equipment has no level requirement and comes already identified.
Worn pet equipment also passes part of the pet's stats to you while the pet is summoned. Each piece adds a share by its rarity:

The total is capped at 10% of your own attack, defence and MP, and 12% of your HP. A pet with no equipment passes on nothing.
A pet that is still holding items cannot be deleted - take its equipment off first.
Resetting a pet's skills
The Pet Skill Reset item, sold in the Item Mall under Pets, clears the skills of the pet you have summoned so you can register different ones.
What a pet is not
- A pet is not a mount. You cannot ride one; mounts are a completely separate system with their own summon items. See Mounts.
- There is no taming. No creature in the world can be captured. Every pet comes from an item or an egg.
